I have read over a dozen series’ involving cats and mystery solving and this is one of my favorites. The personalities of the cats are extremely well-developed, even though they are not anthropomorphized. Isabella and Rupert are so charming and engaging that the book becomes an instant page-turner. The author also throws in a few arcane adjectives to enrich one’s vocabulary and the fun of reading, but not so many that it is a chore. The book has a great sense of whimsy, and I was drawn in from the very first few pages. The description of how to wash a cat is, on its own, worth the price of the book.
