The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is a novella by H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937), published posthumously in 1943 by Arkham House in the collection Beyond the Wall of Sleep.
Lovecraft likely began writing the work in the autumn of 1926 and completed it on January 22, 1927, but it remained unpublished during his lifetime. The novella is both the longest story in Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle and the longest Lovecraft work to feature the recurring protagonist Randolph Carter.
Along with his 1927 novel The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is often regarded as one of the most significant achievements of this period in Lovecraft’s career. The story blends elements of fantasy and cosmic horror into an epic journey that showcases the vast scope and imaginative power of human dreams.
